How High Rib Mesh Works

1. Fix it to the reinforcement

Fix the mesh to the reinforcement or supporting structure at the end of the pour, so the assembly is stiff enough to take the pressure of the concrete.

2. Pour the concrete

Wet concrete passes through the open mesh and sets into it, forming a keyed face for the next pour. The open pattern also lets you see the concrete as it is placed.

3. Leave it in place

The mesh stays in the structure. There is no formwork to strip and no joint face to scabble.

Where to Use High Rib Mesh

Construction Joints

A keyed joint between one pour and the next in walls, beams, columns and slabs.

Stop Ends

A permanent stop end at the end of a pour, in place of a conventional stop-end board.

Hidden Formwork Faces

Wall, beam and column faces that will not be seen, where formwork would otherwise have to be stripped.

Slab Soffits

Slab undersides where the finished face is concealed.

Always follow your project's formwork design for support spacing and pour rate. Send us your conditions and we will help you confirm the thickness and size.

High Rib Mesh FAQ

What is high rib mesh used for?

High rib mesh is ribbed expanded metal used as permanent formwork, mainly at construction joints and stop ends. It stays in the concrete after the pour, so there is no formwork to strip.

How does it work at a construction joint?

Wet concrete passes through the open mesh and sets into it, leaving a keyed face for the next pour. Because the mesh stays in place, there is no stop-end board to remove and no joint face to scabble.

What is the difference between high rib mesh and rib lath?

They use the same ribbed expanded metal profile. High rib mesh is our 445 mm wide strip with 5–10 mm ribs, supplied as permanent formwork for construction joints. Rib lath is supplied in wider sheets and is mainly a base for plaster and stucco. See our rib lath.

Is "high rib" the same on the rib lath page?

Not always. Supplier names vary. Here, high rib mesh means our 445 mm wide formwork mesh with 5–10 mm ribs. 3/4" High Rib Lath is a rib lath with 19–20 mm ribs and is listed on the rib lath page.

Galvanized or 304 stainless steel: which should I choose?

Galvanized steel suits most dry or normal conditions. If the mesh will stay in damp or corrosive conditions, 304 stainless steel resists rust better. Tell us the conditions and we will recommend one.

What sizes and thicknesses are available?

The standard strip is 445 mm wide in lengths of 2000, 2200 and 3000 mm, with thicknesses of 0.15, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40 and 0.45 mm. Rib height is 5–10 mm. Other sizes can be made to order.

What zinc coating options are there?

Galvanized high rib mesh is available with G60 or G90 zinc coating, standard hot-dip galvanizing, or a coating you specify. Tell us the coating you need when you request a quote.

What can be customized?

Length, width, rib height, thickness, material (galvanized or 304 stainless steel), zinc coating and pallet packing. Send your specification with your quote request.

How do I choose the thickness and support spacing?

That depends on your formwork design, the pour height and the pour rate, so follow your project's formwork design. Send us your conditions and we will help you confirm the thickness and size.

What is the minimum order and how is it packed?

The minimum order is 1 piece for both standard and custom high rib mesh. Standard packing is 250, 500 or 1000 pieces per pallet, or as you require. Send us your quantity and destination port for pricing.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes, samples are available. Tell us the material, size and rib height you want to check.

Can you provide test reports or documentation?

Tell us which documentation your project requires, and we will confirm what we can provide for your order.
